And surely one of the great defects of the church of Christ in our day is that we often elevate a man’s gifts to such a degree that we overlook and foolishly excuse his or her lack of love.

You and I are called and destined to be the very fragrance of Christ among everyone we are ever around, but that is not guaranteed; and one of the things that will determine whether we are or not is whether we have learned to die to our rights and entitlements, and live in absolute submission to the risen Christ, who is the Lord of lord and King of kings, and the Lord of the harvest.

The good news of the kingdom of God – this wonderful supernatural realm that the risen Christ rules and that we all have begun to operate in and experience – is that there is a far superior way of living life and handling our sexual passions and needs, and walking out the marriage covenant with our spouse than that which the world system offers.

It is not enough to just intellectually acknowledge that God delivered His Son over to the horrors of the cross for us. We must personally own it and most of us never did until someone helped us see the necessity of a personal faith response to what Christ did on the cross for us.

The quickest way to neutralize the church’s intended effect on its members and on the city in which it is established is by allowing human or worldly or natural wisdom to infiltrate the minds of its members and leaders. Sadly this has happened to a significant degree in the church in our nation.

Just as Jesus Christ – after staying up all night in prayer – chose His 12 disciples for the express purpose of being with Him as Mark 3:14 states; so He has chosen us to be with Him, to walk with Him, to become like Him; and to serve Him, and thus from day to day – to experience Him in life transforming ways (my emphasis).

Have you ever noticed how many times Jesus commands us to ask in the gospels? It’s as if He is sitting on the edge of His heavenly seat, chomping at the bit to act, to intervene, to invade the kingdom of darkness with His glorious light- – if and when His people will ask Him in faith to do so
