One of the reasons the birth rate continues to drop in the West is because of the erroneous idea that the world is being over populated and it is going to explode if we don’t exercise some restraint.

Somehow in God’s sovereign wisdom and goodness, some 4,1000 years ago, He chose a man called Abraham, through whom He brought about a nation called Israel, upon whom He lavished love and affection and destiny – that had nothing to do with their merit, but everything to do with His long range plan for the nations – until the end of time.

In Him (the Holy Spirit) is no mixture. He never has an unguarded or fleshly moment. He cannot and will not ever entertain anything other than fulfilling His role and responsibilities. And one of His primary roles is pointing people to Jesus and revealing Jesus in all His glory to the world in general and to Jesus’s disciples in particular.

Sometimes when the light of Christ invades the darkness of people who do not yet know the Lord it jolts and shakes them. Sometimes they greatly resent it, but without this precious light – individuals are at the mercy of the Destroyer, and by the way he has no mercy.

It’s high time we believers quit beating around the bush. Only when people are lovingly, but boldly and straightforwardly confronted with the truth can they be set free by that same truth. Jesus said, “You shall know the truth, and the truth shall set you free.” How are people going to know the truth unless we tell them?

As we jump into Acts ch. 3 and look at the account of the healing of the lame man I want to share 4 lessons we can learn from this story that can help us get closer to the mark or standard or expectation of our Lord for using us in this day to reveal His power and glory.

Are you aware of Matthew, Mark and John’s fate for not only proclaiming Christ with their tongues, but also recording these things so that everyone could know of them? Well Matthew suffered Martyrdom at Naddabar in Ethiopia. Mark, also known as John-Mark was dragged to death by the citizens of Alexandria. John was exiled to the island of Patmos. Would these men have stuck their necks out like this for a lie? Not very likely.

Miracles are great, and may we see more of them, but their purpose is to point to the Miracle worker Himself or to the source of the miracles. They are an important part of the message. And they point to His divinity. But don’t stop there. Peter alluded to the miracles, but in this long passage He quickly turns the focus to Christ
