“Getting a life” in America Today – Oct. 14, 2013

Updated: Nov 9, 2019

Several Thursday afternoons ago I joined with some other folk from around the Central Coast to pray for an hour in front of Planned Parenthood in San Luis Obispo for an end to the tragic practice of abortion, and all of the wrong thinking and attitudes that lead to an abortion, and especially the evil, heartless greed of the abortion industry. I hadn’t been there five minutes, and an employee of P.P. walked out rather hurriedly and uttered these words at us as he kept walking across the street, “Why don’t you people get a life. C’mon this is America! Quit hassling people.”

The utter irony of such a comment from an employee of Planned Parenthood – our nation’s greatest abortion mill by far – didn’t go undetected. “Life” of course is why Catholic and Protestant men, women, young people and children have been signing up in droves to participate in the “40 Days for Life” campaign – held in 306 different places around the world this fall in all kinds of weather and in all kinds of neighborhoods – enduring sometimes far worse persecution and hostility than this.

Only a very sinister and severe threat on the most vulnerable and innocent of “life” would cause non confrontational and sometimes extremely busy people to stand or pace in front of abortion mills all over the world for sometimes hours on end.

“40 Days for Life” folks – in my mind – is one of the most encouraging, uplifting, life changing movements among the nations in our day, and certainly in ours. You can check out their website at: www.40daysforlife.com. The recently published book that tells their story is a thrilling read. Hearts and minds about abortion are changing every day; women who have had abortions and the men who sometimes pushed them are getting healed (by God); workers in abortion clinics are quitting, and some are joining the pro-life movement; abortion clinics are closing down for lack of revenue….

Yes this is “America” and that is why this barbaric practice of killing our unborn must stop. Jesus promised that whatever is in the darkness will be brought to light (my paraphrase). The lies that have allowed 52 million babies in America since 1973 to be aborted are being exposed and repented of like never before. The evil world view behind those who are profiting from the abortion industry can no longer hide behind “a woman’s right to choose.” It is being seen increasingly for what it is. Allow me to share a couple of examples of that darkest of world views with you. First from Dr. Alan Guttmacher, M.D. former Medical Director of the Planned Parenthood Federation of America (PPFA).

“The pill, in my opinion and that of my colleagues, is an important prophylaxis, perhaps the most important, against one of the gravest sociomedical illnesses extant. That, of course, is unwanted pregnancy.” Did you know that an unwanted pregnancy is “one of the gravest sociomedical illnesses” in society today? Talking about the need for someone to “get a life”!

How familiar are you with the founder of Planned Parenthood? Got to be one of the most evil and corrupt people America has ever produced. Listen to some of Margaret Sanger’s sick wisdom:

“The most merciful thing that the large family does to one of its infant members is to kill it.”

“We should hire three or four colored ministers, preferably with social service backgrounds, and with engaging personalities. The most successful educational approach to the Negro is through a religious appeal. We don’t want the word to go out that we want to exterminate the Negro population, and the minister is the man who can straighten out that idea if it ever occurs to any of their more rebellious members.”

I would strongly encourage you to google and read up about Margaret Sanger and about Planned Parenthood. To me one of the most shocking things is that Planned Parenthood leaders sometimes today will still speak glowingly of her as if she is some kind of saint. Have they ever read her writings? Sadly some of them have and they still exalt her.

The abortion industry in the U.S. is surely one of the darkest blots on our national psyche and character. But the loving, peaceful, prayerful movement called “40 Days for Life” to turn this darkness around is succeeding in community after community because God has always loved the unborn and has always expected communities to do the same.
