Help for Fellowship Pursuers

 Dear Readers:

If you read and/or watched my sermon re: fellowship with God and one another from I John on 1/28, you might remember that I noted that the Greek word Koinonia appears 20 x’s in the Greek New Testament. In addendum #1 below you will find those 20 occurrences. I would encourage meditation on each of these passages to get a better feel for what fellowship with God and with one another might look and feel like, and what it might require.

Addendum # 1.

Koinonia in N.T. (NASV 1995)

The English word translated from the Greek word Koinonia will be in parenthesis

Act 2:42  They were continually devoting themselves to the apostles' teaching and to (fellowship), to the breaking of bread, and to prayer.

Rom 15:26 For Macedonia and Achaia have been pleased to make a (contribution) for the poor among the saints in Jerusalem.

1Co 1:9 God is faithful, through whom you were called into (fellowship) with His Son, Jesus Christ our Lord.

1Co 10:16 Is not the cup of blessing which we bless a (sharing) in the blood of Christ? Is not the bread which we break, a (sharing) in the body of Christ?

2Co 6:14 Do not be bound together with unbelievers: for what partnership have righteousness and lawlessness, and what (fellowship) has light with darkness?

2Co 8:4 begging  us with much urging for the favor of (participation) in the support of the saints.

2Co 9:13 Because of the proof given by this ministry, they will glorify God for your obedience to your confession of the gospel of Christ and for the liberality of your (contribution) to them and to all,

2Co 13:14 The grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of God, and the (fellowship) of the Holy Spirit, be with you all.

Phl 3:10 That I may know Him, and the power of his resurrection, and the (fellowship) of his sufferings, being conformed to His death;

Phm 1:6 and I pray that the of (fellowship) of your faith may become effective through the knowledge of every good thing which is in you for Christ’s sake.

Heb 13:16  And do not neglect doing good and (sharing), for with such sacrifices God is pleased.”

1Jo 1:3, 6-7  what we have seen and heard we proclaim to you also, so that you too may have (fellowship) with us: and indeed our (fellowship) is with the Father, and with his Son Jesus Christ. 6 If we say that we have (fellowship) with Him, and walk in darkness, we lie, and do not practice the truth: 7 But if we walk in the light, as He is in the light, we have (fellowship) with one another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanses us from all sin.

 If you read and/or watched my sermon on 1/28 from I John you may remember my first point was that to enjoy fellowship with God we must embrace everything He reveals to us about His Son – Jesus Christ. The Holy Spirit in the Old Testament

This is not totally exhaustive, but it is a solid survey of what is revealed about the Holy Spirit in the Old Testament. Interestingly He is only referred to as the "Holy Spirit" three times in the O.
