Idolatry Passages in the N.T.

Idol

Act 7:41 - "At that time they made a calf and brought a sacrifice to the idol, and were rejoicing in the works of their hands."


1Co 8:4, 7  - "Therefore concerning the eating of things sacrificed to idols, we know that there is no such thing as an idol in the world, and that there is no God but one. ... However not all men have this knowledge; but some, being accustomed to the idol until now, eat food as if it were sacrificed to an idol; and their conscience being weak is defiled."


1Co 10:19  - "What do I mean then? That a thing sacrificed to idols is anything, or that an idol is anything?"


Idols

Act 15:20, 29  -" but that we write to them that they abstain from things contaminated by idols and from fornication and from what is strangled and from blood. ... that you abstain from things sacrificed to idols and from blood and from things strangled and from fornication; if you keep yourselves free from such things, you will do well. Farewell."


Act 17:16  - Now while Paul was waiting for them at Athens, his spirit was being provoked within him as he was observing the city full of idols.


Act 21:25  - "But concerning the Gentiles who have believed, we wrote, having decided that they should abstain from meat sacrificed to idols and from blood and from what is strangled and from fornication."


Rom 2:22  - "You who say that one should not commit adultery, do you commit adultery? You who abhor idols, do you rob temples?"


1Co 8:1, 4, 10 - "Now concerning things sacrificed to idols, we know that we all have knowledge. Knowledge makes arrogant, but love edifies. ... Therefore concerning the eating of things sacrificed to idols, we know that there is no such thing as an idol in the world, and that there is no God but one. ... For if someone sees you, who have knowledge, dining in an idol's temple, will not his conscience, if he is weak, be strengthened to eat things sacrificed to idols?"


1Co 10:19, 28 - "What do I mean then? That a thing sacrificed to idols is anything, or that an idol is anything? ... But if anyone says to you, "This is meat sacrificed to idols," do not eat it, for the sake of the one who informed you, and for conscience' sake;"


1Co 12:2  - "You know that when you were pagans, you were led astray to the mute idols, however you were led."


2Co 6:16  - "Or what agreement has the temple of God with idols? For we are the temple of the living God; just as God said, "I WILL DWELL IN THEM AND WALK AMONG THEM; AND I WILL BE THEIR GOD, AND THEY SHALL BE MY PEOPLE."


1Th 1:9  - "For they themselves report about us what kind of a reception we had with you, and how you turned to God from idols to serve a living and true God,"


1Jo 5:21  - "Little children, guard yourselves from idols."


Rev 2:14, 20  - 'But I have a few things against you, because you have there some who hold the teaching of Balaam, who kept teaching Balak to put a stumbling block before the sons of Israel, to eat things sacrificed to idols and to commit acts of immorality. ... 'But I have this against you, that you tolerate the woman Jezebel, who calls herself a prophetess, and she teaches and leads My bond-servants astray so that they commit acts of immorality and eat things sacrificed to idols."


Rev 9:20  - "The rest of mankind, who were not killed by these plagues, did not repent of the works of their hands, so as not to worship demons, and the idols of gold and of silver and of brass and of stone and of wood, which can neither see nor hear nor walk;"


Idolatry

1Co 10:14  - "Therefore, my beloved, flee from idolatry."


Gal 5:20  - "idolatry, sorcery, enmities, strife, jealousy, outbursts of anger, disputes, dissensions, factions,"


Col 3:5  - "Therefore consider the members of your earthly body as dead to immorality, impurity, passion, evil desire, and greed, which amounts to idolatry."


Idolater

1Co 5:11  - "But actually, I wrote to you not to associate with any so-called brother if he is an immoral person, or covetous, or an idolater, or a reviler, or a drunkard, or a swindler--not even to eat with such a one."


Eph 5:5  - "For this you know with certainty, that no immoral or impure person or covetous man, who is an idolater, has an inheritance in the kingdom of Christ and God."

 

Idolaters

1Co 5:10  - "I did not at all mean with the immoral people of this world, or with the covetous and swindlers, or with idolaters, for then you would have to go out of the world."


1Co 6:9  - "Or do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived; neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor effeminate, nor homosexuals,"


1Co 10:7  - "Do not be idolaters, as some of them were; as it is written, "THE PEOPLE SAT DOWN TO EAT AND DRINK, AND STOOD UP TO PLAY."


Rev 21:8  - "But for the cowardly and unbelieving and abominable and murderers and immoral persons and sorcerers and idolaters and all liars, their part will be in the lake that burns with fire and brimstone, which is the second death."


Rev 22:15  - "Outside are the dogs and the sorcerers and the immoral persons and the murderers and the idolaters, and everyone who loves and practices lying."
