Knowing and Trusting God as Provider & Deliverer in the Psalms

Updated: Nov 11, 2019

The Psalms have been a great source of comfort and assurance for me for over 40 years. These select verses specifically speak to knowing God as our Provider and Deliverer. We should never doubt Him, especially after meditating on these passages.

“And those who know Your name will put their trust in You, For You, O Lord, have not forsaken those who seek You.” Psalm 9:10

“From You comes my praise in the great assembly; I shall pay my vows before those who fear Him. The afflicted will eat and be satisfied; Those who seek him will praise the Lord. Let your heart live forever!” Psalm 22:25,26

“The Lord is my shepherd, I shall not want.” Psalm 23:1

“The earth is the Lord’s, and all it contains, The world, and those who dwell in it.” Psalm 24:1

“Who is the man who fears the Lord? He will instruct him in the way he should choose. His soul will abide in prosperity, And his descendants will inherit the land.” Psalm 25:12,13

“How great is Your goodness, Which You have stored up for those who fear You, Which You have wrought for those who take refuge in You.” Psalm 31:19

“Behold the eye of the Lord is on those who fear Him, On those who hope for His lovingkindness, To deliver their soul from death And to keep them alive in famine.” Psalm 33:18,19

“This poor man cried, and the Lord heard him And saved him out of all his troubles.” Psalm 34:6

“O fear the Lord, you His saints, For to those who fear Him there is no want. The young lions do lack and suffer hunger; But they who seek the Lord shall not be in want of any good thing.” Psalm 34:9, 10

“The righteous cry, and the Lord hears And delivers them out of all their troubles.” Psalm 34:17

“….And let them say continually, “The Lord be magnified, Who delights in the prosperity of His servant.” Psalm 35:27

“Delight yourself in the Lord and He will give you the desires of your heart.” Psalm 37:4

“But the humble will inherit the land And will delight themselves in abundant prosperity.” Psalm 37:11 (see also vs. 9b, 22a, 29, 34)

“The Lord knows the days of the blameless, And their inheritance will be forever. They will not be ashamed in the time of evil, And in the days of famine they will have abundance.” Psalm 37:18,19

Not a promise, but still encouraging re: provision: “I have been young and now I am old, Yet I have not seen the righteous forsaken Or his descendants begging bread. All day long he is gracious and lends, And his descendants are a blessing.” Psalm 37:25,26

“How blessed is he who considers the helpless; The Lord will deliver him in a day of trouble. The Lord will protect him and keep him alive, And he shall be called blessed upon the earth;…” Psalm 41:1,2

“For every beast of the forest is Mine, the cattle on a thousand hills. I know every bird of the mountains, And everything that moves in the field is Mine.” Psa. 50:10,11

“Call upon Me in the day of trouble; I shall rescue you, and you will honor Me.” Psa. 50: 15

“Cast your burden upon the Lord and He will sustain you; He will never allow the righteous to be shaken.” Psalm 55:22

“The earth has yielded its produce; God, our God, blesses us. God blesses us, That all the ends of the earth may fear Him.” Psalm 67:6,7

“Oh that My people would listen to Me, That Israel would walk in My ways! …I would feed you with the finest of the wheat, And with honey from the rock I would satisfy you.” Psalm 81:13,16

“Surely His salvation (the Hebrew word translated salvation here is the word “Yeshua” and has the broad meaning of “liberty , deliverance, prosperity, healthy, help, safety, welfare” ) is near to those who fear Him, That glory may dwell in our land. Indeed, the Lord will give what is good, And our land will yield its produce.” Psalm 85:9, 12

“Because he has loved Me, therefore I will deliver him; I will set him securely on high, because he has known My name. He will call upon Me, and I will answer him; I will be with him in trouble; I will rescue him and honor him. With a long life I will satisfy him And let him see My salvation.” Psalm 91:14-16

“The righteous man will flourish like the palm tree, He will grow like a cedar in Lebanon. Planted in the house of the Lord, They will flourish in the courts of our God. They will still yield fruit in old age; They shall be full of sap and very green, To declare that the Lord is upright; He is my rock, and there is no unrighteousness in Him.” Psalm 92:12-15

“He has made His wonders to be remembered; The Lord is gracious and compassionate. He has given food to those who fear Him; He will remember His covenant forever. “ Psalm 111:4,5

“Praise the Lord! How blessed is the man who fears the Lord, Who greatly delights in His commandments. His descendants will be mighty on earth; The generation of the upright will be blessed. Wealth and riches are in his house, And his righteousness endures forever. “ Psalm 112:1-3

“It is vain for you to rise up early, To retire late, To eat the bread of painful labors; For He gives to His beloved even in his sleep.” Psalm 127:2

“How blessed is everyone who fears the Lord, Who walks in His ways. When you shall eat of the fruit of your hands, You will be happy and it will be well with you.” Psalm 128:1,2

“The Lord will accomplish what concerns me; Your lovingkindness, O Lord, is everlasting; Do not forsake the works of Your hands.” Psalm 138:8

Psalm 144:12-15 is more of a prayer – clearly meant for God’s people to pray as a way of life for overall prosperity and for that prosperity to be protected: “Let our sons in their youth be as grown –up plants, And our daughters as corner pillars fashioned as for a palace; Let our garners be full, furnishing every kind of produce, And our flocks bring forth thousands and ten thousands in our fields; Let our cattle bear Without mishap and without loss, Let there be no outcry in our streets! How blessed are the people who are so situated; How blessed are the people whose God is the Lord!”

A general statement of God’s provision: “The eyes of all look to You, And You give them their food in due time. You open Your hand And satisfy the desire of every living thing.” Psalm 145:15,16

“He will fulfill the desire of those who fear Him; He will also hear their cry and will save them.” Psalm 145:19

A statement of God’s special attention to and care for the poor, needy and oppressed: “Who executes justice for the oppressed; Who give food to the hungry. …The Lord protects the strangers; He supports the fatherless and the widow.” Psalm 146:7,9

Israel is commanded to praise the Lord for the way He provides for and blesses them, “Praise the Lord, O Jerusalem….For He has….blessed your sons within you. …He satisfies you with the finest of the wheat…..” Psalm 147:12-14
