Passages For or Against God’s Covenant Commitment to Israel

Updated: Nov 4, 2019

These are passages re: Israel’s future – Most proclaim her future spiritual revival and land restoration. A few seem to proclaim that God is done with her (see towards the end). I will continue to add to this as I come across pertinent passages.

Passages in favor of Israel and God's forever covenant with her:

Leviticus 26:44,45 "Yet in spite of this, when they are in the land of their enemies, I will not reject them, nor will I so abhor them as to destroy them, breaking My covenant with them; for I am the Lord their God. But I will remember for them the covenant with their ancestors, whom I brought out of the land of Egypt in the sight of the nations, that I might be their God. I am the Lord." II Kings 13:22,23 – "Now Hazael king of Aram had oppressed Israel all the days of Jehoahaz. But the Lord was gracious to them and had compassion on them and turned to them because of His covenant with Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, and would not destroy them or cast them from His presence until now." II Kings 17:18,20 "So the Lord was very angry with Israel and removed them from His sight; none was left except the tribe of Judah. The Lord rejected all the descendants of Israel and afflicted them and gave them into the hand of plunderers, until He had cast them out of His sight." Sounds pretty grim, and it was. And yet in ch.18 great renewal came through King Hezekiah. Psalm 94:14 - "For the Lord will not abandon His people, Nor will He forsake His inheritance." Psalm 105:8-10 "He has remembered His covenant forever, The word which He commanded to a thousand generations, The covenant which He made with Abraham, And His oath to Isaac. The He confirmed it to Jacob for a statute, To Israel as an everlasting covenant." Psalm 111:5, 9b " Isa. 27:6 Isa. 44:21 Isa. 45:17,25 Isa. 52:8-12 Israel’s future restoration & redemption Isa. 54:7,8,10 Isa. 49:14,15 Isa. 60 – whole chapter promises of future restoration/revival for Israe Isa. 61 – “ “ “ “ “ Isa. 65:8, 9, 10, 17-25 promise of restoration Isa. 66:10-13 future restoration through & in Jerusalem Jer. 23:3-6 …”Judah will be saved” Jer. 24:7 – Israel return with whole heart Jer. 30 – whole chapter about Israel and Judah’s future spiritual restoration Jer. 31 – whole chapter same as above Jer. 32:36-44 promise of restoration and revival Jer. 33 whole chapter esp. vs. 19-22 Jer. 46:28 Jer. 50:4,5, 20 Jer. 51:5 Ezek. 5:8-13 – limit to God’s judgment on Israel Ezek. 11:16-21 – prophecy to Israel Ezek. 16:1-59 = Israel’s sin in great detail; vs. 60-63 God’s everlasting covenant Ezek. 20:39-44 – God’s vow to restore Israel- Ezek. 28:25,26 God’s promise of restoration and peace for Israel Ezek. 39:29 – pour out My Spirit on Ezek. 43:7-9 – I will dwell among them forever Hosea 2:19,20 Hos. 3:5 – sons of Israel will return & seek the Lord Joel 3:1,2b – the nations will be judged according to the way they have treated Israel vs. 2,3 16b 19b Amos 9:8b, 11, 12 restoration of Israel vs. 14,15 the land Micah 4:1-8 – God’s promise to restore/exalt Jerusalem/Israel in the last days Micah 7:17d – 20 – God’s unchanging love & mercy towards Israel Nahum 2:2 – God’s promise to restore Jacob Zeph. 3:14-20 – God’s heart for Israel & commitment to restore her Zech. 1:14-17; 2:4,5, 11,12 – God’s commitment to restore Israel Zech 10:6-12 – God will restore Israel – reason in vs. 6 Zech 11:10 Romans 11:1 Hebrews 8:7-12 – God’s new covenant with Israel and Judah

Seemingly Against: II Kings 14:27 – blot out the name of Israel Ezekiel 15:6-8 Ezekiel 16:1-59 Amos chps. 8 & 9 “the end, the end…”

Questionable: Zech. 11:10 – “to break my covenant which I had made with all the peoples” who are all the peoples?
