Passages For or Against God’s Covenant Commitment to Israel

Updated: Oct 31, 2023

These are passages re: Israel’s future – Most proclaim her future spiritual revival and land restoration. A few seem to proclaim that God is done with her (see towards the end). I will continue to add to this as I come across pertinent passages.

Passages in favor of Israel and God's forever covenant with her:

Leviticus 26:44,45 "Yet in spite of this, when they are in the land of their enemies, I will not reject them, nor will I so abhor them as to destroy them, breaking My covenant with them; for I am the Lord their God. But I will remember for them the covenant with their ancestors, whom I brought out of the land of Egypt in the sight of the nations, that I might be their God. I am the Lord." II Kings 13:22,23 – "Now Hazael king of Aram had oppressed Israel all the days of Jehoahaz. But the Lord was gracious to them and had compassion on them and turned to them because of His covenant with Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, and would not destroy them or cast them from His presence until now." II Kings 17:18,20 "So the Lord was very angry with Israel and removed them from His sight; none was left except the tribe of Judah. The Lord rejected all the descendants of Israel and afflicted them and gave them into the hand of plunderers, until He had cast them out of His sight." Sounds pretty grim, and it was. And yet in ch.18 great renewal came through King Hezekiah. Psalm 94:14 - "For the Lord will not abandon His people, Nor will He forsake His inheritance." Psalm 105:8-10 "He has remembered His covenant forever, The word which He commanded to a thousand generations, The covenant which He made with Abraham, And His oath to Isaac. The He confirmed it to Jacob for a statute, To Israel as an everlasting covenant." Psalm 111:5, 9b "....He will remember His covenant forever." "He has ordained His covenant forever; Holy and awesome is His name." Isa. 27:6 "In the days to come Jacob will take root, Israel will blossom and sprout, And they will fill he whole world with fruit." Isa. 49:14,15 "But Zion said, "The Lord has forsaken me, And the Lord has forgotten me." "Can a woman forget her nursing child And have no compassion on the son of her womb? Even these may forget, but I will not forget you." Isa. 52:8-12 "Listen! Your watchmen lift up their voices, They shout joyfully together; For they will see with their own eyes When the Lord restores Zion. Break forth, shout joyfully together, You waste places of Jerusalem; For the Lord has comforted His people, He has redeemed Jerusalem. The Lord has bared His holy arm In the sight of all the nations, That all the ends of the earth may see The salvation of our God. Depart, depart, go out from there, Touch nothing unclean; Go out of the midst of her, purify yourselves, You who carry the vessels of the Lord. But you will not go out in haste, Nor will you go as fugitives; For the Lord will go before you, And the God of Israel will be your rear guard." Isa. 54:7,8,10 "For a brief moment I forsook you, But with great compassion I will gather you. In an outburst of anger I hid My face from you for a moment, But with everlasting lovingkindness I will have compassion on you," Says the Lord your Redeemer."..... Jer. 50:4,5, 20 "In those days and at that time," declares the Lord, "the sons of Israel will come, both they and the sons of Judah as well; they will go along weeping as they go, and it will be the Lord their God they will seek....."They will ask for the way to Zion, turning their faces in its direction; they will come that they may join themselves to the Lord in an everlasting covenant that will not be forgotten."...'In those days and at that time,' declares the Lord, 'search will be made for the iniquity of Israel, but there will be none; and for the sins of Judah, but they will not be found; for I will pardon those whom I leave as a remnant.' And the house of Israel will not again defile My holy name, neither they nor their kings, by their harloty and by the corpses of their kings when they die, by setting their threshold by My threshold and their door post beside My door post, with only the wall between Me and them. And they have defiled My holy name by their abominations which they have committed. So I have consumed them in My anger. Now let them put away their harlotry and the corpses of their kings far from Me; and I will dwell among them forever." Hosea 2:19,20 "I will betroth you to Me forever; Yes, I will betroth you to Me in righteousness and in justice, In lovingkindness and in compassion, And I will betroth you to Me in faithfulness.
