“Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all comprehension, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.” Philippians 4:6,7
Ever find yourself worrying about something? Ever find yourself worrying about the upcoming presidential election in the U.S.?
The reality is many of us do worry about this from time to time. For some it is a daily source of anxiety. The question is how are we going to overcome and get free of worry? Sadly many try to find something in the news to make them feel better about the outcome of the election. That solution often causes us to spend way more time watching or reading news and commentaries and listening to projections and polls than we should.
Paul in the above quoted passage says the key to overcoming worry is praying about what we are worrying about. And that praying should include both thanksgiving and supplication/intercession.
So to both help us overcome worry about the election and help us positively affect the election outcome I’ve put together a simple prayer tool that I hope you will use regularly for the next couple of months.
1. That everything in the darkness/that is hidden will be exposed that needs to be exposed for we Americans to make the best decision (see Luke 8:17).
2. That the fear of the Lord would be poured out on all election workers & that no one would break the law or cheat.
3. That all foreign interference would be discovered and decisively and effectively dealt with.
4. That what needs to be known and understood from the debate on Sept. 11th would be known and understood.
5. That media outlets would strive for impartiality and righteousness and truth in their reporting.
6. That believers would put their full trust and hope in the Ruler over all kings (Rev. 1:5) and the righteous Judge (Psalm 7:11 ) & not in a political candidate or party.
7. That we believers would be led by the Spirit for when we need to be informed and where we go for information re: news and specifically election news.
8. That God would mercifully grant American voters discernment.
9. That fathers would learn how to lovingly disciple their children into adulthood so that they live principled lives and learn to vote for principilled people; not react to image.
10. That all believers would vote per biblical truth and that all believers would vote.
11. That God would pour out the knowledge of God and the fear of the Lord on Donald Trump, wife and children and Kamala Harris, husband and children. That they would be ever more “…..humble, contrite of spirit, and would tremble at God’s word.” Isa. 66:2
12. Thank the Lord that “The king’s heart is like channels of water in the hand of the Lord; He turns it wherever He wishes.” Prov. 21:1
13. That believers in the U.S. especially would increasingly obey I Timothy 2:1,2, “First of all then, I urge that entreaties and prayers, petitions and thanksgivings be made on behalf of all men, for kings and all who are in authority, so that we may lead a tranquil and quiet life in all godliness and dignity.”
Thank you Father that you want us to lead a tranquil life. Thank you that you want to free us from worry. Please help us to devote ourselves more to prayer. Please forgive us for wasting time trying to find comfort and solace from media instead of from our Maker. Please cleanse us from impulsive and unwise TV watching or social media engagement. Thank you for hearing our prayers. Thank you for caring about our nation and our government.
We ask these things in the powerful name of Jesus, Amen!!
P.S. If you find this to be a helpful tool please consider printing it out and putting it where you will see it on a daily basis. Also please consider forwarding it to someone who might appreciate it. Thank you!
