Jesus’s Commands to Ask

Updated: Nov 9, 2019

While we disciples of Jesus should all long to hear His voice better, it is imperative that we grow in confidence that He delights in our asking in prayer. Indeed we can only grow as His disciples when we learn to ask freely, continuously and confidently. This list was compiled to deepen that confidence.

Matt. 7:7,8 “Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives, and he who seeks finds, and to him who knocks it will be opened.” Matt. 18:19 “Again I say to you, if two of you agree on earth about anything they ask, it will be done for them by my Father in heaven.” Matt. 21:22 “And whatever you ask in prayer, you will receive, if you have faith.” Mark 11:24 “Therefore I tell you, whatever you ask in prayer, believe that you have received it, and it will be yours.” John 14:13 “Whatever you ask in my name, this I will do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son.” John 14:14 “If you ask me anything in my name, I will do it.” John 15:7 “If you abide in me, and my words abide in you, ask whatever you wish, and it will be done for you.” John 15:16 “You did not choose me, but I chose you and appointed you that you should go and bear fruit and that your fruit should remain, so that whatever you ask the Father in my name, he may give it to you.” John 16:23 “In that day you will ask nothing of me. Truly, truly, I say to you, whatever you ask of the Father in my name, He will give it to you.” John 16:24 “Until now you have asked nothing in my name. Ask, and you will receive, that your joy may be full.”
